Introducing the PPA Charity Poker Database

This PokerCares Blog will no longer be updated.

We have moved over to a database solution to better distribute information about poker charity events.

This new solution will allow the following:

1. People to easily find charity poker events by state and month.

2. People to easily find online charity poker events.

3. Ability for people to get updates on new events through RSS and their email

4. Ability for website owners to have these new events post automatically on their websites through a widget. (Myspace and Facebook pending).

We are currently taking submissions for charity poker events and schedules.

Event: Chamber antes up with Texas Hold-Em tournament (Holly, MI)

“The Holly Chamber of Commerce is holding a Texas Hold-Em poker tournament on Saturday at the VFW Hall, 201 Airport Drive.

The check in is 5 p.m. It costs $50 to buy in with a $1,000 first prize, if 80 players enter. The final table payout is eight places. The tournament also features beer, water, pop, pizza and door prizes.”

Event Recap: Prendeville Wins Big At Charity Poker Tourney (Jackson, CA)

“Andrew Prendeville walked away from the poker table at Jackson Rancheria Casino & Hotel with the big check.

Prendeville, who drives for RLR/Andersen Racing in the Indy Pro Series, out-dueled several drivers at the inaugural Speedway Children’s Charities Poker Tournament. Prendeville was presented with a $10,000 check from Jackson Rancheria, with it designated for qualified youth organizations in Sonoma County through Speedway Children’s Charities, the charitable arm of Infineon Raceway.

Event Recap: NPL RAISE $10,000 and a further $20,000 in gifts for the Great Ormond Street Hospital (UK)

“It was definitely a case of ’Poker Cares’ at the NPL UK Open Charity Party held at the Loose Cannon Club on 16th August 2007. The party hosted by local celebrity Lisa loud, gave some of the NPL UK Open players and spectators a break from the poker ahead of the final table event the following day. A champagne and jazz band reception was followed by a silent auction which included fabulous prizes donated by fifteen generous sponsors including RBC Capital Markets, Destination Marrakech, Guidetti Fine Foods, AEG Live and celebrity fashion designer Pauline Burrows who were all in attendance. It was in fact Pauline’s celebrity designer shirt fitting that interested the poker players with Matt Dale, Sonny Osman and Mel Judah all bidding for the lot.

Event: Know to hold ‘em (Devol, OK)

“You got to know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em, know when to walk away, know when to run … You can decide to hold ‘em – or fold ‘em – at the Texas Hold’em Tournament at 2 p.m. Sept. 2 at Comanche Red River Casino in Devol, Okla.

With its $65 buy-in, the poker tournament benefits the Association for Retarded Citizens. Sign up the day of the tournament or call the ARC at 692-2303.”

Event: Poker tourney to help prevent child abuse (Beaufort, SC)

“It’s a problem none of us like to think about. But truth is,  every day there are children in our area who are mistreated or neglected.  But luckily there are groups like the Lowcountry’s Child Abuse Prevention Association that work to bring the numbers down.

“We have the shelter for the abused and neglected children and the number of children stay relatively the same,” CAPA’s Katie Grindle said.  “The ages are what change significantly. We’ve seen a much younger population in the shelter which means, we’re doing our job.  The kids are more comfortable talking about it earlier.  And that’s a good thing.”

“Thursday night’s benefit poker tournament for Noe Garcia, the injured groom for seven-time Grade 1 hero LAVA MAN (Slew City Slew), is expected to net $120,000, according to Dennis O’Neill.

“It went extremely well, far above anyone’s expectations,” said O’Neill, the brother of Lava Man’s trainer, Doug O’Neill.
