“At least one bingo hall owner and members of a local charity group continue to host charitable poker tournaments, despite efforts by city leaders to shut down the games.
In April, Portsmouth’s city attorney asked a state police charity to stop a poker tournament it had been running after determining that the games are illegal.
The police organization complied, agreeing to shut down its games next month, but the tournaments may continue to benefit other charities.
Victory Lanes Booster Club, which raises money for charities, has also continued sponsoring poker events. According to club organizer Don Ferguson, Victory Lanes has raised $10,000 through poker play since October and has been running bingo games seven years. ..”
