Casino: Poker Room Review – The Silver Fox (Everett, MA)

“The set up is this: Though poker is officially illegal in Massachusetts, they play no-limit hold’em tournaments legally under a ‘charity raffle and bazaar’ license. This gives them the ability to have the equivalent of a Las Vegas night. But they do it on a regular basis, with different charities on different nights of the week. They’re open now Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6PM to midnight. They spread sit-and-go tournaments, and a couple of large multi-table no-limit hold’em tournaments as well. There are no cash games. All of the tourneys are no-limit hold’em. There are house dealers.

Event: Pet lovers play poker for shelter (Pittsfield, MA)

“The top floor of the Crowne Plaza Hotel might look a little like a famous Cassius Coolidge painting tomorrow night. But replace poker-playing dogs with dog-loving poker players. The Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter will hold its first no-limit, Texas Hold’em poker tournament at 7 p.m. to benefit shelter renovation. “Ante Up for Animals” will feature tournament-style Hold’em, a catering spread and an array of animal lovers…”

Event: Charity gives Dedham pantry a boost (Norwood, MA)

“Lyndsay Barich, a member of the pantry’s board of trustees, said yesterday supplies are lower than usual. “Normally the food is stacked up five or six boxes high,” Barich said. “Now it is down to the floor.”

To take advantage of the matching grant, the food pantry will hold a poker tournament April 28. The entry fee is $100 per player with a $1,000 first-place prize. Proceeds go to the pantry.”

The ALS Foundation for Life is a Franklin, Mass.-based organization that provides financial support and assistance for families coping with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.”
